Photo-A-Day May 7 & 8

I’ve been sick.  That’s a shocker, right? 🙂  So yesterday and today’s pictures are cheats… but they are pictures I’ve taken, so they’re not total cheats.

someone who inspires me

First up, “someone who inspires you.”  This is a picture of a picture of me and my mom a long ass time ago. 🙂  She doesn’t like me taking her picture so I had to use an old one. My mom is all kinds of awesome.  She’s been a single mom most of my life and sure she had her lows but for the most part she did her best and I love her for it.  She’s truly one of my best friends.  After having to quit nursing school literally just a few weeks from finishing the RN program so that she could take care of my grandpa my mom just took her LPN test and passed!  I’m so proud of her!  My mama rocks!

a smell you adore

Speaking of how much my mom rocks… she makes THE BEST apple pie in the world.  So when I had to take a picture of “a smell you adore” it was pretty simple… Mom’s pie.  Ironically I’d just deleted a week old picture of a freshly baked pie off of my camera that I could have used for this.  Instead I’m using a crappy cellphone pic from Xmas. 🙂

I’m not the biggest fan of birds but our house seems to be Bird Heaven.  We live in an old brick farm house so the birds love to make nests in areas where the brick is broken.  This bird is part of a family of doves who are very loud and not at all shy.  They’ll walk along the window ledge with one of the dogs or cats going nuts on the other side of the window and totally aren’t phased.  This picture is of Kia stalking the Birdie Friend yesterday.

I love taking super macro photos, so for today’s challenge of “You” I pulled out nearest book and found the word you to snap.  This happens to be from the most awesome book American Vampire by my homie Jennifer Armintrout.  🙂 Photo edited with

I had a date with my baby brother tonight.  I love dates with my brother.  I love that he’s sixteen and still thinks that hanging out with me is cool.  We’ve been waiting for basically forever for the movie The Avengers to come out and tonight it finally did.  Today’s photo challenge was “Fun” and holy crap monkeys is The Avengers fun!  There are so many things about the movie that are just beyond amazing that I can’t even begin to explain… it’s just epic.  Ridiculously epic.  To share that with my Peanut… way beyond fun. ❤

Something I Wore

I bought two sets of these silver bracelets years ago… one set was for Love and the other for Luck.  Over the years several of them broke (they were on elastic) and lost.  I finally decided that the ones that managed to survive however needed to finally be transfered to wire so that they too wouldn’t go flying off my wrist.  The new version of these old bracelets is what you see above with a few extra trinkets added to the old ones. 🙂

I’ve lived in the country for about half a year now and it still amazes me how different the skyline is out here.  There are times when I still miss being closer to everything and I’m still getting used to all of the wildlife out here… but the view is pretty damn nice. 🙂  Instead of looking into a neighbor’s back yard when I get up in the morning, I get to see this.

Photo-A-Day May 1

Today’s photo prompt was “Peace.”  I’ll admit, I nearly forgot to do my photo challenge today.  Yeah, yeah, I know it’s the first day and I’m already slacking… but I kept forgetting all day that it was actually May!

My picture is truly something that I think of when I think of peace though… Notebooks and Books.  I’m a writer and I love notebooks.  The notebooks seen in this picture are probably all around 10 years old.  But they’re the notebooks that I wrote my fiction in when I was in college and didn’t yet have a handy laptop to use.   There are bits and pieces of chapters, brainstorm sessions, doodles, and inspiration in those books and I love to look through them because it’s like going through a scrapbook and revisting my old characters.  The books in the picture are a very very small selection of the books I own.  I love to read.  If I could figure out a way to read and write for a living I’d totally do it.  Just like writing, reading is an escape for me and I’m always able to find my peace when I’m doing one or the other.

May Photo Challenge

Okay it’s true… last time I did a photo challenge I failed miserably.  But… I’m doing it again because I’m in a better place right now and because I want to.

Thanks to Pinterest and @fatmumslim, I have a happy list to work from…

Ten Years

WTC MemorialIt’s weird how the mind works. How certain days, moments, songs, sights, etc. are for one reason or another stored in your personal memory bank while others pass through and are soon forgotten.

One of the first memorable events that I can remember was watching Michael Jackson doing the moonwalk for the first time on the Motown 25 anniversary special in 1983. I was six and a half years old, hopelessly in love with Michael Jackson, and I was up past my bedtime but my dad let me stay up to watch MJ perform. I remember sitting on the living room floor watching Michael sing Billie Jean and then magically gliding across the stage for the first time.

Three years later the Challenger space shuttle exploded and another random day was placed in my memory bank forever although I don’t remember nearly as much detail about that one for some reason. I remember being a freshman in high school and having to evacuate the school in the snow for hours without a coat because there was a bomb threat while across the world US troops were in the Gulf War, the first war of my childhood. I even remember where I was when OJ Simpson was in that white Bronco running from the police.

I can’t tell you what I did ten days ago, but I can tell you exactly what I did ten years ago to the date. Most people probably can if they were old enough to be aware of what was going on that day. I was twenty-five years old living in my first apartment. I had a full time job with the with the American Cancer Society and had planned to work the evening shift instead of my normal day shift because I had a job interview elsewhere that day. No one in my department knew I was looking for work, I was the Coordinator of the department and was in charge of two shifts of employees. I was making good money and it was essentially a good job but it wasn’t what I wanted to make a career out of. I’d been there four years and I felt like if I stayed there much longer instead of working in the field I’d studied in college that I’d be stuck.

Photo Challenge Day 1-5

The most awesome Miss Mollie over at Wild Olive is always bursting with crafty creativeness.  A short while back she made a post about a 30-Day Photo Challenge that she’s participating in after she found it at the Oh So Lovely blog.  I was, of course, late to the game (they’re on Day 17, I’m on Day 5), but still think that the 30-Day Photo Challenge is brilliant so I’m doing it too, just not in correspondence to the month of August.  In fact, I’m sort of not even always doing it every day… but I’m doing it in order and I will try my best not to take forever to do it. *grin*

Here’s the list…

30 Days

And here, are my first few days of the challenge…

Day One – Self Portrait

Here I am, looking a little overly boobalicious.

Day Two - What I Wore
Day Two – What I Wore

Michigan is currently experiencing what scientists are saying is the worst mosquito season in 20 years.  There’s evidence of this all over my body.  The stinkin little vampires attack at all times of day and also enjoy sneaking into the house to feast on our blood when we’re sleeping.  Note to self and others, a mosquito bite on the boob is a real pain in the boob and makes sitting at a desk all day difficult.  Continue reading

Still Here

It’s been a while, huh? NaNoWriMo back in November sort of sucked the life out of me and then I was working on all sorts of Christmas gifts which took up all of my writing and blogging time. After the holidays I was served up a massive helping of Drama at work that just sucked ass, and now I almost feel like things are kinda sorta getting back to normalish again. 🙂

I have actually been writing. I managed to get one lonely chapter of a book finished in the past month or so, and I have a partially finished blog post in the notebook that’s in my knitting bag. The only reason I haven’t yet typed it up is because it’s on a very personal topic and it kind of kicked my ass when I wrote it last week. In fact I broke down in tears while writing part of it and I was in public at the time, which for me is a really big no no. I cry over things like movies and commercials and children performing, but I don’t generally cry over my own stuff. So the fact that I not only cried but cried in a coffee shop is a big deal… which in turn has made revisiting it to type, edit and post kind of low on the totem pole. I will post it though… I promise. 🙂 Just not today.

I posted earlier this week on Facebook that my life was suffering from a lack or artsy creative stuff this week. Thankfully though it’s been a rather artsy season so far despite this week’s lack of production.

I’ve been making jewelry…
Earrings for Jilly

Bracelet for Jill

Necklace for Shawn

I’ve been embroidering…
Bag for Jude

Scrubs for Heather

I’ve been knitting…
Lace for Anne

Multi-directional Sock Scarf

I’ve been snapping photos of seriously adorable kitties…

Toothless Wonder

We call him "Mew Mew"

Ooh and since the first of the year I’ve read six books which really makes me happy (my 2010 book count was 32). If you’re interested in seeing what exactly I’ve been reading, check out the GoodReads link on the sidebar.

So although I haven’t been blogging and I haven’t been writing as much as I would like, I have been a busy chick. What creative goodness are you up to lately?
