Chapter 8 – New
My first vision about Josh that wasn’t about his death showed up about three weeks into our relationship. The image I’d had in my head when Miklos spoke about his family’s cottage stopped showing up and my visions went back to usual business and only showed up in my sleep. My mom and aunts had even looked through the family history to see if there was any way that Miklos’ grandma was one of us, but they hadn’t been able to find anything.
Josh and I hadn’t exactly said that we were dating but it was obvious to everyone, and ourselves, that we were. He came to see me at the coffee shop all the time, and it always made my day. Evenings were generally spent hanging out with Krypto at Josh’s place as long as he wasn’t working, but there were a few times that they’d come over to my tiny little apartment too.
We were cuddled up on my couch watching some god-awful movie that he’d told me he loved and wanted me to watch. I’d fallen asleep about thirty minutes into the movie and found myself in the familiar setting of a vision. I walked through the barren yard to the faded blue door, took a deep breath hoping it wasn’t the same old vision of Josh’s demise, then pushed open the door.
Immediately I was thrown into the new vision set in my own living room. I was there on my couch snuggled up to Josh and the movie was over. He was laughing at me because I’d slept through the whole thing. “Thanks for watching the movie I love so much, Jensen.”
I laughed and pushed at him, “I’m sorry! I guess I was really tired. What I saw was… interesting? We’ll have to watch it again sometime when I’m not so sleepy.”
“No…” he said trying to be belligerent. “This was your one chance and you blew it. The universe says you can’t watch it again because falling asleep during your boyfriend’s favorite movie is CLEARLY a sign that means you don’t care.” He laughed at himself as I just gave him a look that told him he was an idiot. He liked to blame the dumbest things on the universe even though he was starting to pick up on signs without my help.
“Maybe the universe was telling YOU that this movie sucks and you need to stop watching it because it’s CLEARLY a piece of crap that makes your girlfriend fall asleep.”
“Maybe my girlfriend needs better taste.”
“Maybe my boyfriend needs better taste.”
We sat there giving each other fake annoyed looks until we couldn’t do it anymore and dissolved into giggles leaning on each other while laughing. He threaded his fingers with mine and then brought our hands up to his mouth to kiss my fingers, “So… you called me your boyfriend.”
I smiled, my cheek against his shoulder, “You called me your girlfriend too.”
“I like it.”
I picked my head up and looked at him, “Me too.”
“As your boyfriend, I think it’s time I earn my sleepover privileges.”
“Oh do you now?”
He nodded, “Yup. Krypto too.”
“Oh he’s always had sleepover privileges. He could’ve been sleeping in my bed for weeks now.”
Josh leaned in and kissed me gently, “But that’s where I want to be.” He kissed me again before I could respond. This time the kiss was one of those knock your socks off kind of kisses that leaves you breathless.
I leaned my forehead against his, my eyes closed, as I tried to regain my breath and get control of my racing heart. “Privileges granted.”
I woke from the vision and was seriously confused at first. I couldn’t figure out if I was still in the dream 2or what, but I glanced at the television and the movie was still on and nearing the end. I looked around and tried to remember signs from the vision. Krypto had been laying on the floor in front of the TV stand. But right then he was still on the couch with us. I waited and absentmindedly watched the last scene of the movie when all of a sudden Krypto stood up, stretched, then jumped off of the couch and laid on the floor in front of the TV stand. The movie ended a minute later and Josh looked at me and started to laugh, “So, how’d you like it?”
I smiled shyly, “Um… It was good?”
“You lie!” he laughed. “You didn’t see hardly any of it. Thanks for watching the movie I love so much, Jensen.”
I laughed and pushed at him just like I had in the vision, “I’m sorry! I guess I was really tired. What I saw was… interesting? We’ll have to watch it again sometime when I’m not so sleepy.”
“No… This was your one chance and you blew it. The universe says you can’t watch it again because falling asleep during your boyfriend’s favorite movie is CLEARLY a sign that means you don’t care.”
It was seriously weird having the same conversation all over again. I didn’t even have to think about what I was supposed to say, the words just came out of my mouth naturally. It was like déjà vu except that I knew precisely what was happening and what would happen next.
We gave each other our fake annoyed looks until we cracked up. I waited for him to reach for my hand and when he did I knew exactly what he was going to say next after kissing my fingers. “So… you called me your boyfriend.”
“You called me your girlfriend too.”
He leaned in to kiss me like I knew he would. “But that’s where I want to be.” Anticipating the next kiss and knowing how great it was going to be my heart started to beat faster. The kiss seemed even better than the one in the vision which frankly was pretty damn great.
Totally out of breath all over again and really freaking relieved to have had a positive vision about Josh I sighed with my forehead pressed against him, “Privileges granted.”
I’d never had a vision come true so quickly. Generally they were at least a day later if not a few days. To have a vision and then have it happen immediately after I woke up was dizzying. I was so happy that it was a positive one though that I refused to overanalyze it yet. I knew I’d totally be asking my mom and the twins about it later though either in the Meeting Place or while sitting around my mom’s kitchen table.
“Where’d you go?” Josh asked as he pulled back and looked in my eyes. “I felt you drift away for a minute.”
I chuckled and shook my head. I hated when I went on my little mind vacations and he noticed it. I always felt like he would feel like I thought he was boring me or something. I reached up to hold his face in my hands and rubbed my thumbs over his cheeks feeling little bits of stubble popping up, “Just thinking about you and how happy I am with you. Sometimes when I think about it I get overwhelmed.”
He smiled and I touched his dimples with my thumbs. I loved his dimples as much as I loved him. He pulled my hands from his face and held them in his hands. “I do the same thing about a billion times a day. I don’t know why it took so long for us to meet, but I’m really glad it finally happened.”
I nodded and found myself getting choked up at his words. He had no idea how true what he said was. I looked down at our hands because I felt like I was going to cry, “Yeah, same here.”
“Should I be concerned that you look like you’re about to burst into tears? Cause I’m pretty sure you just said you were super happy with me but… now I’m utterly confused.” He laughed and I giggled too but a tear did find its way down one of my cheeks.
I wiped away the tear quickly then returned my hand to his, “I can’t explain it. Maybe one day I’ll be able to, but I can’t right now. Let’s just say that I’ve been waiting for you a long time. Longer than you know. I’m really, really, happy that you’re finally here.”
He kissed me again, the sweet gentle version, then smiled, “And you’re crazy happy that I’m going to sleep here tonight, right?”
“Obviously. I’ve been waiting for weeks to snuggle with Krypto all night,” I teased. “You too…”
“I feel so loved,” he said with a laugh.
“Oh but you are! I just really love that dog.”
“Mmm hmm…”
I giggled as I crawled onto his lap and straddled him. His hands slid up my thighs and curled around to rest on my ass. He really liked my butt and his hands were very familiar with it. I looked down at his pretty eyes and there was no doubt in my mind that I loved him. I liked to play it off and joke around about it because inwardly I was so afraid to fall for him and have my heart broken. Sitting there though with him grinning up at me, I thought to myself that I really needed to stop being so afraid because there was no way that I was going to stop the train at this point. Not that I had any desire to do so.
“Tell me something romantic.”
“You have the most beautiful ass in the world,” he said with a chuckle and squeezed my butt in his big hands.
We laughed together and I gave him a look, “Try again.”
“Your hair curls like the French fries at Arby’s.”
“You really suck at this…”
He laughed again then I could tell he was going to be serious just by the sheer amount of love showing through his eyes. “You are, by far, the most amazing, wonderful, creative, quirky, freakishly psychic, beautiful, and lovely person I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing and I can barely remember what my life was like before you were in it.”
I chuckled, “It was only three weeks ago, your memory is pretty shitty, babe. I’m a little concerned about your patients.”
He smiled, “You can tease all you want, but it’s the truth.”
I slid my hands under his tee shirt to feel the warmth of his skin on my fingers. “Sometimes when you say things like that I can’t take it. Like, I know you’re telling me the truth because I can see it in your face, but in my head I’m screaming that you couldn’t possibly mean it. Not about me.”
“But I do.”
“I know you do.”
“Now it’s your turn, tell me something romantic.”
“You complete me.”
“You can’t use a movie quote!” he said and laughed. I opened my mouth but he put a finger over my mouth, “No book quotes either. No poems, no TV… just you.”
I sighed, “Damn. I had a good book one.” I chuckled and continued to watch him as he grinned up at me. “I want to curl up in your dimples and live there.”
“That’s kind of creepy.”
I laughed so hard that I snorted which made us both laugh so hard we had tears in our eyes, “I know… that sounded so much better in my head.”
“Third time’s a charm… you can do it.”
I thought about telling him how I’d loved him a decade before meeting him, or explaining that I knew he was the love of my life. Instead I settled for more humor and hoped that it would be okay. I ran my fingertips up his chest under his shirt slowly as I spoke whisper soft, “I can’t wait to finally get naked with you.”
That did the trick and all thoughts of being super sweet and romantic flew out the window for both of us. We were a tangle of arms pulling off clothing in an attempt to get to as much skin as possible as quickly as possible. As soon as my shirt and bra were tossed to the floor, Josh’s hands were all over me and his mouth followed. I wasn’t a virgin by any means, but I honestly felt like nothing I’d ever felt before could compare to what it was like to have his mouth on my skin. Nibbling, sucking, kissing, tasting… it was amazing. I raked my fingers through his hair while he sucked on one of my nipples and I wanted nothing more than to feel his entire body against mine. I didn’t, however, want it to happen on my fairly ugly secondhand couch.
I pulled back from him, much to his dismay, and stood up to hold my hands out to him. I pulled him up to standing and he captured my mouth with his all over again. Our bare chests were crushed together, hands roaming each other’s skin. I broke away from the kiss to catch my breath and looked up at him with a grin while I undid the button of his shorts and began unzipping them slowly. He let out a groan turned moan as I slid my hands into his shorts, cupping his bulge in my hand over his boxer briefs. His hips thrust toward me begging for more but I pulled my hand away and instead grabbed his before pulling him to my bedroom.
He playfully pushed me onto the bed and then quickly stripped himself of the rest of his clothing. I sighed as I looked up at him standing there gloriously naked. He wasn’t one of those overly sculpted men who spent more time working out than most of the world, but he had a great body. Strong arms and legs, great pecs and amazing abs with just the right amount of cushion for holding onto. “You’re so pretty…” I told him and giggled.
“Not as pretty as you…” he said as he crawled onto the bed and hovered over me. He lowered himself and began kissing along the waist of my shorts while again my fingers played in his hair. He looked up my body to meet my eyes as he unbuttoned then unzipped my shorts. He then pulled them off ever so slowly, dragging them down my legs before tossing them to the floor. He repeated the same slow torture with my underwear, occasionally pressing kisses to my legs. I was literally trembling by the time he was back over me and I pulled him down to me, my legs wrapped around his waist as he began kissing me again. His length pressed against my clit as we moved against each other was enough to send me over the edge even without penetration but he finally slid inside of me I thought I might die from the sheer ecstasy of the feeling.
Our lovemaking was soft and sweet, then hot and frenzied. It was the best sex I’d ever had and the only kind of sex I ever wanted to have for the rest of my life. Everything about it felt right and I knew without a doubt that I was exactly where I was supposed to be. As we lay together tangled in a mess of sweaty limbs catching our breath I pulled my fingers through his sweaty hair and closed my eyes just reveling in the afterglow. That is, until Krypto decided to join us and jumped up onto my bed, found a pillow, did three circles, and lay down closing his eyes.
We laughed so hard that Krypto eventually opened his eyes and looked at us like we were nuts then closed his eyes again with his little paws over his face. “Apparently the child has spoken and sexy time is over,” I giggled.
Josh raised an eyebrow at me and shook his head, “He doesn’t get to decide when sexy time is over. His little furry ass can be locked out of the room if we have to. I’m not even close to being done.”
He definitely wasn’t and neither was I. We were up most of the night exploring each other’s bodies while Krypto spent the evening in the living room on a pillow bed we made for him on the couch.
