Ahh the book cover… I’m not going to lie, I judge books by their covers, I really do. I know there are books out there that I’d probably love that I’ve passed on because I didn’t like the cover and therefore never bothered picking it up.
Anything that looks like this…
I totally wouldn’t bother picking up. No offense to the writers, because they could be awesome books… I’m just picky when it comes to covers.
So here are some of my favorites in no particular order.
Okay so this one isn’t so much the cover as it is the fact that it’s all about frogs and the illustrations inside are brilliant. The cover is lovely, but the inside is wonderful. Next time you’re in a bookstore, look this one up. 🙂
I love the cover of this book. Simple yet with so much detail too. I can’t even remember what the book was about but I remember liking it and the cover totally stayed with me. It was actually the first book I thought of when I saw this week’s topic.
Another simple design that has stuck with me. With or without text, this image will always relate to this book.
Do you see a pattern here? I really like simple covers. I love the covers of this trilogy.
Sarah’s covers are always gorgeous.
I love this book, love the cover, love the illustrations throughout.
This is a perfect example of a great cover. I LOVE Chris Moore, but based on the original covers of his older books, I totally wouldn’t have picked him up. I saw this though and it pulled me in.
But this is the original cover… I never would’ve read the blurb on this.
And it looks like this is the new one… Not really digging this one either.
I’m glad to have discovered him though because his writing is amazing!
Okay, your turn… Tell me the covers you like! Are you picky? 🙂
And check out what the girls enjoy when it comes to covers!

OMG – I *love* the covers for The Book of Lost Things and The Girl Who Chased the Moon. They’re so intriguing! And now, I have to look them up. My TBR list has suddenly gotten a lot longer today.

I loved the Harlequin cover! Totally made me laugh out loud. I remember seeing them in the store and thinking, “Who buys these?” And it was all because of the “amazing” cover art.

Isn’t it wonderful that we all have different tastes and opinions? I am rarely influenced by covers. I look for authors I know or genres I like, or titles that grab my imagination. Occasionally a cover will catch my eye, for instance, the cover for The Girl Who Chased the Moon fascinates me. It stopped me to look. But in general, I find covers, as often as not, to be misleading, so I tend not to trust them. Just my opinion. 😉
